Every time I’m scrolling through Instagram I always see self-care practices that I’d like to do, but in reality I know that I won’t make time for. So, rather than setting aside 2-3 hours in the morning or evening, I started weaving self-care into my day with little bits here and there to help me manage stress, boost productivity and get shit done. 

Write down your goals:

You might have heard me say that I write down my goals every morning – helping me stay focused and remember what I’m working towards. But there are times when I get super bogged down in the minute-to-minute stuff of life – dealing with frustrating clients; writers block or just daily stress in general. When this happens, I find taking a moment (usually about 5-10 minutes) to write down my goals helps spark some creativity and get me back on track.  This simple act of self-care doesn’t take long, nor do I need to move to do it. These goals don’t have to be written in your journal or even be the same as your morning list. Just do it! 

Facial rolling:

Oh I love me some facial rolling! My facial roller is made of rose quartz but there are a bunch of different materials out there. Whether or not you believe in the “woo-woo” side of crystals, you can still benefit from facial rolling. I like to roll in the centre of my forehead, under my eyes and along my cheeks and jawline then across my forehead. Taking a few moments to literally smooth out the wrinkles in my forehead immediately reduces my stress levels and feels amazing. I like to keep my roller in the fridge so that its nice and cold.

Walk around the block:

The easiest way to reduce stress and increase productivity is to move your body. When I work from home I am the queen of hiding in my office all day and forgetting to eat or drink anything other than coffee. Usually what I’ll do on these days is set an alarm every couple hours and force myself to get up and walk around the block. As much as I don’t want to leave my desk, I feel better every. Single. Time. Also- I am much more productive once I sit down again. So, the next time you’re stuck- try taking a little stroll. 

Remove Something from your to do list: 

This one takes the least amount of time, but is probably the hardest one to actually do – take something off your To-Do list. Yep, you heard me right – pick an item and let that shit go. 

A lot of the time we overestimate what we can actually get done in a day and so we pack our To-Do lists with as many things as possible, then, when we can’t complete the whole list we feel guilty. 

So, take a look at your list and decide what you can take off today – then don’t worry about it again!

Complete 5 Sun Salutations:

Surprise surprise, the yoga teacher wants you to do yoga… well yeah, it’s good for you. If you WFH you can do this anytime (remember, moving makes you a better person) but I prefer to do it in the morning and then when I get home.  

Going through a few sun salutations helps you reconnect with yourself and focus on something other than work for a few minutes. Remember that movement helps increase productivity and can boost creativity- so get flowing! 

So, the next time you find yourself falling asleep at your desk or hitting a road-block, take 5-15 minutes and do one of these things.
